07/15 Treasures and Rainbows
Treasures and Rainbows
Today was a fairly laid-back day. Emma went into town early because she had a zoom call and she also picked up some more sticky buns for our breakfast. We have discovered that Fundy national Park does not have very good Wi-Fi or cell phone coverage.
We hung out at our campsite for much of the day and simply did nothing. Emma worked very hard organizing our bins of equipment, food and the car in general. Doug, of course, was there to lend a hand when anything needed to be moved or lifted. I did my best to supervise while watching a show on Netflix.
We decided to go for a swim in the saltwater pool later in the afternoon. We were disappointed to discover that the pool was closed for the second day in a row due to a fowling. We had about an hour to wait so we went and had a picnic in a nearby parking area. When we returned to the pool, we discovered that it was filled to capacity and we were going to have to wait in line.
Apparently, there is quite a shortage of trained lifeguards in this part of the world. And so there were only two lifeguards available at the pool which meant that the pool capacity had to be redefined due to supervision limits. We ended up waiting over 90 minutes to go swimming. But it was so worth it in the end.
The pool is built right at the shore of the bay of Fundy. It was built in the 1950s to attract tourists. It is a heated saltwater pool and they use solar energy to heat the pool. When we arrived we waited and when they finally let us in they were limited by the number of people who were exiting.
When it was finally our turn to enter the pool they had space for only one person. So we sent Emma in alone to enjoy the water. Doug and I were able to join her about 15 minutes later. It was quite perfect as we were able to get in about 40 minutes in the pool before it closed for the evening.
The hot shower after the swim was almost the best part. But truly the best part of our afternoon was the rainbow that we could see as we exited the pool. While the rainbow typically leads to a pot of gold in this case it led to the treasure… Bay of Fundy. We we’re back at our site for the evening, Emma went to work organizing dinner. Doug started a fire when we returned and I tidied the site as there were some items that will head being rained on in the afternoon. Tonight‘s feast was Mexican quesadillas and burritos. It was all very delicious. It was also quite enjoyable to finish our meal with, another, sticky bun. We packed up after dinner and our car is 90% packed and loaded for departure in the morning. We are looking forward to visiting Cape Breton tomorrow.
